Back from OBS. Feeling nothing but a bit sad. My watch this year is called SEMPADI. Instructor was Ramaesh. Course assistant was Melanie. Team members are Wen Yee, Fionnie, Jacky, Mei Ting, Lee, Kelvin, Ken Hon, Leonard, Johari, Fong, Loong, Loong, Leong, and Shaun.
st day: On this day, we registered, get to see the place we will be staying for the whole course ( the dormitories ) and last but not least ice breaking and reasons for coming to OBS ( which most of my team mates were being forced to come ).
nd day: In the morning we play games with other team, mostly include team work and brain work. Ben was giving lots of tips to the teams so we saved lots of time. Then later in the afternoon, we did the belay intro course, which we have to learn these few commands. Lock and check, squeeze check, am i on belay, instructor check and climbing. And if you think you will fall, you will have to say falling, so the belayer can get ready. In the evening, we did the rope course. I wasn’t scared and i did it faster than last year, so a pat on a back for me. hehe.
rd day: On this day, we learn to navigate by using the compass and a map for our jungle trekking expedition. After learning how to use these things, we did an orientation in the school and in a mini jungle just behind the school. Its was easy and we manage to finish it in less than an hour. A pat on my back again. hehe. no la, it was team work and I’m proud of my team. In the night, the school gave a briefing about the kayak expedition to Pangkor and the do and don’ts during the trip. Ben was the sea captain, i was the left flanker, dee was the right flanker and Ian was the sweeper.
th day: In the morning, we learned how to kayak the kayak. haha. But because time was little, our team and yong yap didn’t manage to learn how to manage the kayak if the kayak capsize. But it was fun though. My kayak partner was Fong, easy to work with this guy. In the evening, we kayak to Pangkor. It was cold as it drizzled on and off. Then there was a kayak which capsized, but not mine. heee. When we reached Pangkor, SEMPADI got a bad campsite, in the jungle not by the sea, thanks to Lee our manager of the day. We didn’t managed to make fire that night because all the fire wood were wet, so in the end, SEMPADI had to borrow MULU’s fire and had our dinner in the dark. Our campsite was pitch dark so we spent the whole night sitting out side of our tent and chatted. Its was fun. Lee was still a nice guy at that time but he kept disturbing me. Then by 2 am, it started to rain. The ladies tent was wet, so we didn’t had a good sleep, but the boys were better because they give priority to their tents first when they were building the tents.
th day: We kayak back to OBS on this day. MULU and YONG YAP tents were " destroyed by the ferocious wind the night before except SEMPADI’s coz our campsite was protected by the trees in the jungle. Anyway kayaking back was really frightening as the waves were very big and rough. Our kayak capsized, but we were saved by our instructor. Then we were let go on the sea again, and it was time to give a full attention to the sea and fight it. And we did it!! hooray!! but few time nearly capsize again. nearly. When we got back to OBS, we clean the tent sheets and the equipments. In the night the was another briefing, but this time it was for solo camping.
th day: On this day, we prepared our bags for solo camping. Before that, i kept going to the toilet to wee because i wouldn’t want to pee alot of time in the jungle. After i weed, Ramaesh, our instructor, instructed us to ‘ play ‘ hot seat. this is where team mates will tell what they think about yourself and thing to improve on. In the after noon, he took us the the solo camping site. My campsite was much nicer if i would to compare it with last year. Anyway I couldn’t make fire as the fire wood were still wet coz it had been raining non stop ever since we joined the course, but luckily for us, it didn’t rain on that day. i drank little and ate little and slept little during solo camping. the snail was really cute and disgusting but they were around my campsite. eeww. But I didn’t kill anything. Warning: do not kill things in the jungle or do stupid stuff that will offend the jungle or you will get your punishment.
th day: Ken Hon woke us up too early, but anyway i couldn’t sleep , so i don’t blame him. Then we did rock climbing. Most of the Girls cheated especially from SEMPADI coz Ramaesh pulled us up the rock instead of climbing it. hee. it was too slippery coz there was water. Wasn’t as fun as last year though. Then in the night , it was briefing time for the jungle trekking expedition. I was wondering could i do better than last year in the jungle trekking expedition.
th day: SEMPADI was the last team to leave the school, but we caught up with MULU and YONG YAP in the jungle after a few hours. We went jungle trekking with YONG YAP most of time and reached the site on the same time coz we tracked together. MULU was first to arrive at the campsite coz they split up with SEMPADI and YONG YAP. This time, SEMPADI manage to make fire and cooked dinner. I KNOW some complained about the dinner on that day, but i don’t really care because they didn’t make an effort to prepare dinner so serve them right !!!! hahahaha, but i enjoyed my dinner that day. Then later we played truth or dare and i managed to make Ken HON kiss Lee hahaha so funny. hahaha.still laughing hahaha. Then it rained again. Like usual, the girls tent was wet but not the boys tent so dee and me woke up early the next day to enjoy the last day in the course.
th day: The last day for sis and me. Leaving a day earlier coz MSN got selection on the next day which was the certificate day. Received our group photo and wrote a letter to the course director. Then prepared for our presentation. Did ok, and was enjoying the night. Saw reunions of many families including mine, but soon will be time to say bye bye to my beloved SEMPADIANS. We parted when the school were singing AULD LANG SYNE, so tears filled my eyes. Then Rameash gave us our cert, badge and said we did very well during the course. Before we left, we hug our friends and say bye bye. Sad day. reached home around 230 am.
SEMPADI ROCKS!!!
